Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Telecom giant MTN, Mr. Stephen Blewett has expressed his commitment to partner the media in advancing the growth of the company.

According to him, the media is MTN’s greatest ally for information dissemination and development, hence the need for that partnership.

The CEO of MTN made this statement when he paid a courtesy call on the leadership of Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) in Accra on Wednesday.

“The media has a responsibility of making sure the people have access to information and we as a business also have a responsibility of delivering good services to the people

So my main mission is to partner with the media to take MTN to the next level”, Mr. Blewett emphasized.

Mr. Blewett who has held several top positions in MTN in Benin and Cameroun, later stressed the need for the media to be free and fair in the discharge of their mandate adding that it is a pre-requisite for the protection and development of democracy.

He lauded the work of the GJA and the media in general and expressed his commitment to support the media and rekindle the existing relationship between the media and MTN.

On his part, the GJA President, Mr. Albert Kwabena Dwumfour commended Mr. Blewett for his new role and pledged GJA’s resolve to help him succeed.

Mr. Dwumfour also highlighted the massive support extended to the media in the past by MTN and called for more collaboration and support.

“Please help bring back the love that existed between the GJA and MTN and give us the maximum support. You can be assured that we will replicate this support in ten folds”, the GJA President underscored.

He later appealed to the CEO to make data very affordable to the media as data remains the lifeblood of the media, considering its rate of digitalization.

“Data is very expensive for our media people-and it is now worse with the emergence of new media where almost every mainstream media is gravitating towards the online platforms, Mr. Dwumfour stressed.

“…So any means by which data can be made affordable to our media people would be much appreciated”.

Mr. Stephen Blewett’s delegation included, the Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer Adwoa Wiafe, Senior Manager, Corporate Communications, Georgina Asare-Fiagbenu and Corporate Communications Manager, Efua Falconer.

The rest are Media Relations Advisor, Afua Asafo-Adjei and Chief Operating Officer- Touch Point, Clarence Amoatey.

On the side of the GJA was the Organizing Secretary of GJA Dominic Hlordzi, the Greater Accra regional Chairman of GJA, Charles Benoni Okine, GJA’s representative on the NMC, Gabriel Bosompem and the Executive Secretary to the GJA President, Michael Petit Mawugbe.
