Chairman of Parliamentary Select Committee on Energy and Mines, Hon Atta Akyea has described the GRA/SML Contract scandal as a mere propaganda against the company.
Hon Atta Akyea who led his Committee members to the Tema Office of the Strategic Mobilization Limited (SML) on Monday said many people do not have clues about the operations of the embattled company, hence the propaganda.
“What I hate is when people do propaganda against indigenous companies”, he said.
He added that “many people do not have a clue about what these people do; what SML does”.
But comments of the MP for Abuakwa South has come under strong consternation from anti-corruption CSOs.
One of them is the Citizens Movement against corruption whose co-chair, Edem Senanu has questioned the basis for Atta Akyea’s position when audit firm KPMG which is investigating the scandal, is yet to release findings of its investigation.
According to the anti-corruption campaigner, the conduct of the Parliamentary select Committee Chair is akin to the usual clearing of people ahead of reports or findings.
The GRA/SML Scandal is a contract awarded to SML by the GRA where SML is expected to receive 100 million dollars per year.
