The Chairman of the Parliamentary select Commitee on Mines and Energy Samuel Atta Akyea has cautioned the youth of Ada who incessantly attack Electrochem to desist from the act.

He described the acts as lawless which must be dealt with by the law.

Hon. Atta Akyea made the statement when he led the Parliamentary Select Committee members on a fact -finding mission to the Production site of Electrochem at Ada on Friday (November 17,2023) to learn at first hand the operations of Electrochem and the cause of attacks on the salt production company.

“We can not have that lawlessness undertaking that can bless the entire country”, the Chairman of the Committee fumed.

“….So I’m using this opportunity to send a note of caution to those who believe this whole Ada Traditional Area should not improve”.

He said Electrochem, a subsidiary of the McDan Group, must be supported rather than attacked especially when the Company’s intent is to improve the lot of the Ada youth, cede some of the production lines to them as well as create a ready market for them.

The Abuakwa North MP further stressed that after touring the site and appreciating the investment of 88million dollars into the project, he believes the project should not be undermined adding that “ this is one the things I as the chairman of the Committee will take it up at the highest level”.

“This country should not have people who want to undermine a progress. Its anti-progress to see a company that is giving interest free loans to its indigenes”, Hon. Atta Akyea emphasized.

He therefore stressed the need for the law to deal with all trouble makers at Electrochem
Whilst also admonishing them to eschew actions he described as enemy of society.

On his part the Ranking Member of the Committee, Hon John Jinapor explained that one of the mandates of Parliament is to ensure that businesses thrive as they contribute to the growth of the country’s GDP.

He however stressed that even though the Electrochem’s operations which is salt production is a game changer, the Committee is going to make sure they operate within a conducive and peaceful environment whilst also ensuring that they operate within the framework of the law.

“I want to encourage the company to continue engaging the stakeholders for government and the country to see how we can give them the needed support so they can expand a d create jobs for the youth”, the Ranking Member assured.

It would be recalled that clashes ensued few days ago at the site leading to the death of one person.This triggered the Committee to visit the site
