2023 Media Capacity Enhancement Program (MCEP) Opens in Accra with 144 Journalists Participating

The Second Cohort of the Media Capacity Enhancement Program (MCEP) has opened in Accra with about 144 Journalists participating.

The Program under the theme “Equipping the Media to Play an Effective Role in our Nation Building” is aimed at building the capacity of Journalists and media Practitioners on the need for them to demonstrate high level of professionalism whilst also focusing on stories that  promotes national development.

Speaking at the ceremony held in Accra on Monday, the Minister for Information, Hon. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah revealed that about 144 Journalists are participating in the program, an indication that government prioritizes the developmental needs of Journalists.

He said the program will equip Journalists in this fast changing and  demanding of Journalist in our fast growing media industry.

He advised the Participants to take advantage of the program and used the knowledge acquired to promote nation building.

 On his part,  the GJA President, Mr. Albert Kwabena Dwumfour emphasized that the concept of the Media Capacity Enhancement Programme (MCEP) aligns well with his  top most policy initiative which is capacity building for Journalists. 

“It was one of my priorities whilst vying for the GJA Presidency. Today I am extremely happy that aside several workshops that the GJA has initiated for Journalists, the second MCEP is happening under my tenure as President”.

He said this program, is not an exercise in futility but an endeavor seriously placing premium on the training of our members to understand the importance of capacity building and to cherish the essence of nation building.

He therefore commended government and the Ministry of Information for sustaining this program adding that “I have no doubt that the MCEP will do more good to Journalists than harm”.

The President of PRINPAG , Mr. Edwin Arthur said the relationship between  the government and the media has not been desirous, urging the government to be fair to all the media in respect of advert placement and support for the media.

Other personalities who graced the occasion included the GIBA President, Mr. Cecil Sunkwa Mills, Executive Secretary of NMC, Mr. George Sarpong, MCEP Working Commitee Chairman, Prof. Kwabena Kwansah Aidoo among others.
