There was near fisticuffs at the Tip to Lane Polling centre at Circle in Accra where polling Agents of some candidates on one side and machomen of other Candidates, on the other side engage in free for all heckling.
The confusion had been triggered by allegations and counter allegations that polling agents of the Candidates approach the electorates and influence which candidate they should vote for.
The Returning officer who looked helpless obviously due to absence of police personnel there tried his best to calm the situation down but the “pugilists” would have none of that as they continued with the heckling accompanied with insults.
Meanwhile only 21 people have voted as at going to Press but the Electoral Officer was optimistic that the number may increase exponentially at the end of polls.
The District level elections is taking place today across the country with an estimated voter turn out to hit over 60%.
The Minister for Local Government, Decentralization and Rural Development , Hon Dan Botwe had since been advocating for people to participate massively in the elections, expressing optimism that this year’s district elections may record high turn out due to the publicity on it.
