Rots at NPA’s UPPF As Co-ordinator Jacob Amuah on National Security Radar
Unimpeachable information Newsflashafrica.com has stumbled upon reveal that the operations of Unified Petroleum Price Fund(UPPF), and its Co-ordinator are under the surveillance of the National Security and seat of government over what has become the UPPF brouhaha.
According to a deep throat source at the NPA, the Co-ordinator Mr. Jacob Amuah’s actions and inactions was what precipitated the nationwide strike by the Tanker drivers, which strike according to the source embarrassed government hence the investigations into the operations of UPPF.
It would be recalled that Members of the Ghana National Petroleum Tanker Drivers Union a week ago declared an indefinite sit-down strike demanding improved conditions of service.
According to the drivers, an agreed-upon policy framework aimed at enhancing their salaries and other working conditions has been on the table of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) board since November 2023.
Despite several efforts to get it approved, the aggrieved drivers say the NPA board has refused to vote on it for it to be implemented.
Our checks reveal that Mr. Jacob Amoah’s avowed insistence that NPA should be the one to pay the UPPF cash to the Tanker Drivers is the raison d’être for the unimplemented agreed policy by the NPA.
Tanker Drivers and Stakeholders in the Petroleum industry are thus calling for the head of the UPPF Coordinator whom the stakeholders describe as counterproductive and exhibiting anti-government traits.
Our source further adds that the vexatious manner in which Mr. Jacob Amoah [a protege of the NPA boss Mustapha Hamid ] is handling the UPPF has ignited tension between stakeholders and the NPA such that the goodwill of NPA is currently dwindling amongst stakeholders.
He was however optimistic that with the National security and seat of government taking keen interest in the operations of UPPF,, sanity will prevail within the petroleum industry.
Meanwhile, an RTI request has been filed demanding the following:
1. Full disclosure of UPPF including the total volume of fuel supplied or consumed per month.
2. Basis for last Friday’s surreptitious increment of Petroleum freight from 0.85 pesewas to 0.10 pesewas.
The core mandate of Unified Petroleum Pricing Fund (UPPF) is to ensure that fuel prices for OMCs are the same irrespective of which part of Ghana you find yourself.
UPPF also ensures that Petroleum products are transported in a manner that is efficient and inexpensive to reach the consumer where ever they live.
MORE SOON.
