PNC Heads to Court… Rejects EC’s Disqualification of Bernard Mornah
The People’s National Convention (PNC) has rejected the decision of the EC to disqualify their Presidential candidate Mr. Bernard Anbaayatela Mornah.
Addressing a news conference in Accra on Friday following the issuance of the EC’s statement disqualifying the Candidates, the Presidential Candidate of the PNC Mr. Bernard Mornah pooh-pooed the decision of the EC describing it as a sham.
He disclosed that the Party will fight this issue in court for this grand scheme orchestrated by the EC to be reversed.
The Chair of the Electoral Commission Jean Mensa at a news conference on Friday explained that the Commission detected errors in the PNC nomination forms resulting in the disqualification.
But Mr. Mornah has questioned the basis for the disqualification arguing that the EC itself, in 2020 made grievous errors by declaring elections results 5 times but got away with it without being punished.
He stressed that even the EC ‘s own forms had “six” instead of “sex” which he said is an error adding that the EC also made several mistakes during the exhibition of the Voter’s register and got away with it.
The PNC Leader described the decision of the EC as a travesty of justice maintaining that he fight this illegality in court to reverse the decision.
He later called on the rank and file and supporters of the PNC to remain calm as the party leadership takes remedial steps to undo what the party described as grand scheme by the EC.
“I’ve worked with Jean Mensa from the time of IEA. She knows me very well but look at how she fumbled to pronounce my name.
It is as if pressure was on Jean Mensa to do what she did
The news I have received tells me the anger people have for the EC.
This is a temporary set back and I know we will be put back on the ballot”, Mr. Mornah fumed.

PNC’s Response to the Electoral Commission’s Press Release
The People’s National Convention (PNC) has taken note of a press release issued by the Electoral Commission of Ghana today, 20th September 2024 regarding the party’s participation in the upcoming elections.
The PNC acknowledges receipt of an official communication from the Electoral Commission concerning the outcome of the party’s nomination submissions for the 2024 elections. According to the Commission’s letter, the PNC’s Presidential nomination was disqualified due to “several errors and omissions identified by the review teams (Technical and IT), despite an opportunity being provided to rectify these issues.”
The PNC strongly disagrees with the rationale given by the Electoral Commission for the disqualification. On 13th September 2024, the Electoral Commission formally requested the PNC Presidential Candidate, Mr. Bernard Mornah, to make certain corrections to the nomination forms and return them by Saturday, 14th September 2024. The PNC received it on 14th September 2024 and rightly observed some few omissions that were pointed out by the EC. The omissions were properly filled and submitted on 14th September 2024.
Since re-submitting the corrected forms, there has been no further communication from the Electoral Commission until the issuance of today’s (20th September 2024) press release. The PNC believes that the party has adhered to all procedural requirements and therefore disputes the reasons provided for the disqualification.
We urge our members to remain calm and law-abiding as we address this issue through the appropriate legal channels. Our legal team has already written to the Electoral Commission, and we will seek legal redress to ensure justice is served.
We remain optimistic that Mr. Bernard Mornah will be reinstated as a Presidential Candidate for the 2024 Elections. We appreciate the support and patience of our members and the general public as we navigate this process.
Thank you.
-Signed-
Bernard Mornah
Presidential Candidate and Leader
