PRESS RELEASE
HARASSMENT AND USE OF BRUTE FORCE BY ADELES IN THE NKWANTA SOUTH MUNICIPALITY AGAINST THE POLICE AND OTHER LAW
ENFORCEMENT AGENTS IN THE DISCHARGE OF THEIR LAWFUL DUTIES
20TH FEBRUARY 2024 NKWANTA SOUTH MUNICIPALITY , OTI REGION
It has come to the notice of the A kyode Youth Association with total shock and disbelieve the level of display of lawlessness and disdain use of brute force of some elements believed to be
Adeles at Tutukpene against the police and the other security agents in the Nkwanta South
Municipality in the discharge of their lawful duties.
On Friday, February 16, 2024 the police had arrested a criminal suspect called Attah Kwasi who was allegedly part of a criminal gang that murdered one Samuel Abunya, a graduate teacher and an Akyode by tribe. The late Samuel Abunya was gunned down and stabbed severally to death in the presence of his pregnant wife who continuously pleaded with the blood -thirsty criminals to spare the husband’s life. The wife herself is an Adele woman, and the mother of the late Samuel is also an Adele from Chaiso . The deceased was born and bred by his parents at Chaiso and therefore identified more with the Adeles than his father’s people, the Akyodes. It is not surprising that the identity of the killers was not in doubt or difficult to ascertain.
On that fateful day, Friday,February 16 2024, one of the suspect killers was arrested at Nkwanta and was being transported to Dambai the Oti Regional Capital by the police to be processed for court. On reaching Tutukpene, the traditional capital of the Adeles, the road was blocked b y some hooligans who forcefully made the police release the suspect to one Augustine Melebor
who identifies himself as the Secretary to the chief. The police had to exercise some judgment in their own estimation to avoid bloodshed, death and injuries on b oth sides. They therefore released the suspect to the marauding and blood-thirsty hooligans.
Ironically, these acts of hooliganism by the Adeles took place the same day the newly appointed Municipal Chief Executive of Nkwanta South Municipality, Felix Gyima himself an Adele was being confirmed by the Assembly. These were the same Adeles who orchestrated unfounded allegations against Bright Lenwah, the former Municipal Chief Executive as having compromised himself in the tribal conflict at Nkwanta. Why? Because he is an Akyode person.
Interesting Times Ahead!!
Whiles we commend the Police for demonstrating maturity and good judgement on the spot, we want to emphasize that all those linked to this act of unpatriotic, lawless and use of brute force to disrupt the police from carrying out their mandate should be made to face the full rigors
of the law to serve as a deterrent to all such acts of hooliganism and uncivilized display of force.
