New Executives Sworn in as the Defense Press Corps for 2024-2026 Term

The Defense Press Corps (DPC) officially swore in its new executive committee on Thursday, 19 December 2024, in a ceremony held at the International Press Center. The event brought together members of the DPC and journalists from other media organizations to witness the leadership handover.

The New Executives, with Armstrong Gold Allorgbey as the Dean

In his farewell address, outgoing Dean Mr. Ampiah Wood encouraged members to show loyalty to the new leadership, especially as the media landscape continues to evolve. He emphasized that while the industry faces numerous challenges, it also offers abundant opportunities for growth and innovation.

“The media landscape is rapidly evolving, presenting not only significant challenges but also substantial opportunities,” Mr. Wood stated. “Let us not remain comfortable with traditional media systems but embrace the new media revolution to better serve our clients and achieve personal fulfillment.”

He also extended his congratulations to the incoming executive team, led by Mr. Joseph Armstrong Gold-Alorgbey, wishing them success and divine guidance for their tenure.

Following the swearing-in, Mr. Joseph Armstrong Gold-Alorgbey, the newly appointed Dean, who is also a security analyst and recent graduate of the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College with an MSc in Defense and International Politics, accepted the leadership role with a firm commitment to progress.

“This mandate is not one we take lightly. It is a call to action, and I assure you this term will be marked by progress, collaboration, and transformation,” Mr. Gold-Alorgbey stated. “Each member of the DPC has a crucial role to play in advancing our collective objectives.”

Acknowledging the accomplishments of the outgoing leadership under Mr. Wood, Gold-Alorgbey expressed confidence in continuing the work of the previous administration. “We cannot and will not fail the DPC or the public in fulfilling our mandate,” he said.

Gold-Alorgbey outlined the core responsibilities of the DPC, which include accurate and objective reporting on the operations and activities of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF). He emphasized the importance of educating the public on military and defense matters, both domestically and internationally.

“We must recognize that achieving these objectives requires more than just the efforts of the press corps. We need cooperation from the military high command and the heads of various military units to ensure timely and accurate information is available,” he stressed. “Only through such cooperation can we effectively dispel misinformation and reduce speculation about military activities.”

The new Dean also highlighted the need for transparent communication to foster public understanding of the military’s critical role in maintaining national peace and security. “Timely and accurate information will help build greater respect, trust, and confidence in our armed forces,” he added.

In his closing remarks, Mr. Gold-Alorgbey reaffirmed the DPC’s role in supporting the national discourse and safeguarding the nation’s security. “The day the military loses its identity or its ability to perform its duties effectively, our nation’s security will be at risk,” he warned. “We must work together to ensure that the military remains strong, resilient, and respected.”

The newly sworn-in executive team, which will lead the Defense Press Corps through 2026, consists of:
