JB Danquah’s Contemporary in modern Day Politics is Wontumi-Kwesi Pratt

Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper and a Stalwart of CPP, Mr. Kwesi Pratt Jnr, has pooh-poohed attempt by President Akufo Addo to project J. B Danquah as a national hero.

He equated JB Danquah’s status then in the UGCC to that of Wontumi, the Ashanti regional chairman of the NPP.

Mr. Pratt was speaking on a talk show on Pan African TV.

He further argued that the highest level attained by JB Danquah has been attained by Wontumi, hence JB Danquah’s role can not be compared to Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s founder.

“Only people who don’t know our history can be pushing Danquah as a national hero

Do you know Danquah’s true position in the UGCC. Danquah was the Eastern Regional Chairman of the UGCC. That’s all, that’s the height he got.

So if you are looking for equivalent of Danquah in modern day Politics, it is Wuntumi”, the firebrand stressed.

He added “ the level that Danquah attained in the UGCC has been attained by Wuntumi”.

Mr. Pratt’s comments have been necessitated by President Akufo Addo’s rejection of Kwame Nkrumah as the founder of Ghana.

The President’s August 4 broadcast in which he made those comments have received widespread condemnation from the citizenry, some who said the President is not in tune with the history of the country.

Meanwhile, former President John Dramani Mahama has waded into the controversy and has watered down the President’s comments vowing to restore 1st July as Republic Holiday to celebrate Kwame Nkrumah as the only Founder of Ghana.
