Gborbu Wulomo Marrying a 12 Year Child is Criminal-Nana Oye Bampoh Addo
The marriage of a 12 year old girl by the Gborbu Wulomo, Shitse Wor Kumor Borketey Larweh Tsuru III has sent a shock waves, sparking controversy among Ghanaians.
It is in light of this that former Gender Minister Nana Oye Bampoh Addo has described the marriage as a crime taking into consideration the Children’s Act.
She explained further that the Children’s Act, (ACT 560), criminalizes such act adding that the Ministry of Gender, CHRAJ and the Police must be seen to acting by now.
The Human Rights Lawyer was speaking to the media on Monday in respect of the issue.
“We are asking and demanding that the police take action”, Nana Oye decried.
She described the marriage, be it cultural or spiritual as unlawful that violates the right of the child, wondering why after 48hours of the incident, the state apparatus has still not acted.
She said what is unlawful under the law is unlawful stressing that issues consent as being argued by proponents of the marriage is immaterial.
