Atta Akyea Must Apologize to Journalists Over His Comments or Face Our Wrath- GJA President

President of GJA, Mr. Albert Kwabena Dwumfour has fired a salvo at the MP for Abuakwa South Samuel Atta Akyea for his comments.

Atta Akyea in a tour with Vice President Bawumia said “Ghanaians should vote for an Economists and not a Journalist” but the GJA views the comments as demeaning to the noble profession and has thus condemned his comments and called on him to apologize or face the wrath of the GJA.

Mr. Dwumfour made the statement at the National Dialogue on Media Freedom organized by the Multimedia group.

The GJA President argued that the first President of Ghana, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah was a Journalist adding that President Akufo Addo at a point was the publishe of the Statesman.

He described Atta Akyea’s comments as misinformation and disinformation which must be condemned by all.

The GJA President insisted that Journalists are special people in their own rights and have attained advances degrees and expertise in many fields that qualify them to be president.

The GJA is therefore demanding an apology and retraction of that statement from the MP.

“One other issue that also affects media freedom is the denigration of journalists or media work by government officials through their public utterances.
Let me use this opportunity to condemn the comment made by former Minister of Works and Housing and MP for Abuakwa South, Samuel Atta Akyea, who advised or encouraged voters to hand over Ghana to an economist, not a journalist.
Mr. Atta Akyea’s assertion that journalists lack expertise is misinformation and discriminatory. This stereotype ignores the diverse academic and professional backgrounds of journalists, many of whom hold advanced degrees and occupy esteemed positions”, Mr. Dwumfour emphasized. .
