Anti-Galamsey Protests are Security Threats to the Nation -Lawyer Charles Owusu Juanah
A Human Rights Lawyer, Charles Owusu Juanah has expressed worry over the incessant anti-galamsey protests saying the protests have security implications for the nation.
Describing himself as a Concerned Citizen, Lawyer Juanah explained that he has no qualms with people calling for an end to the galamsey adding however that the way people have politicized and taking advantage of the situation to protest, is his major worry.
According to him, he witnessed the Sierra -Leone war and that it started with protests like these and later degenerated into full scale war.
Lawyer Juanah made these statement at a news conference in Accra on Monday.
“There is so much tension in this country because of these protests. The Police are overstretched and it’s a threat to our national security”, the firebrand lawyer stressed.
He added that Jihadists are all over looking for situations like ours and take advantage to strike, hence the need for Ghanaians to be cautious in their quest to stop the galamsey.
Lawyer Juanah later advised Ghanaians to instead go to the polls and elect who ever they want as president following which the new President will then act decisively to ensure the galamsey maintaining that the current political temperature makes it uninspiring for the President to heed to the state of the emergency.
“They should allow Ghanaians to go choose their President then after we can fight the galamsey
When we get our new government in place then we can now go and fight it”, he emphasized.
